Resumen

Este artículo ofrece una lectura del fundamentalismo islámico a la luz de los últimos acontecimientos ocurridos en los Estados Unidos el pasado 11 de septiembre y la guerra desatada desde entonces. Pero también, el autor nos recuerda que dicho fenómeno no es privativo de la religión musulmana o de los Orientales. También nuestro mundo occidental, particularmente los Estados Unidos, el principal abanderado de la actual guerra en contra del fundamentalismo, alberga unos grupos religiosos que se creen depositarios de la Verdad Revelada, por cuya causa e instauración están dispuestos a luchar, valiéndose, si es posible, de los métodos más sangrientos. Al fin, el artículo recomienda el diálogo entre las civilizaciones, como único mecanismo eficaz en la batalla que realmente les debería ocupar en este nuevo milenio: "la justicia para con los pobres, los huérfanos y todas las víctimas de los ricos injustos, usureros, opresores".



Abstract

This article examines the islamist fundamentalism in light of the september 11th terrorist attact on the United States, and the subsequent war that has been ignited since. The autor also reminds as that fundamentalism in sot exclusive to the muslam or oriental world. In Occident, particularly in the United States, the leader of the current war on fundamentalism, aslo has a number of religious groups that believe they are the sources of the Revealed Truth, and for this reason, they are ready to fight, prepared to use ofthen the blodiest of means. In the end, this article accentuates the needed for dialogue between civilizations, as an effective mecanism in the struggle for what is really important: justice for the poor, the orphans, and all the victisms of the richs, usurers oprressors.
